Course Introduction

This degree gives you qualifying law degree status with the competitive advantage of specialised knowledge of criminal law and criminal justice. You will learn how criminal justice works as a system, and develop skills in thinking critically about the genesis of crime, its effects on society and the most effective strategies to fight against it. Law with Criminal Justice LLB is unique in that it brings substantive (statutory/written law) and procedural (the 'machinery' to enforce) criminal law together into one programme.

Course Modules

Level 1 Core: Contract Law; criminal law; the criminal justice system; the civil justice system; public law in context; legal skills and methods. Level 2 Core: European Union law; land law; tort law; trusts. Level 3: Optional Work placement (for thick'sandwich mode of study). Level 4 core: Dissertation. Compulsory: Sentencing and penology; evidence; criminology; international human rights. Options: Banking law; children and the law; company law; competition law; consumer law; criminology; employment law; evidence; family law; ; intellectual property law; international human rights; international law; international sales law & arbitration (with participation in international moot); international minority rights; jurisprudence; sentencing and penology; taxation of income.
