The course covers how the universe works. From the behaviour of fundamental particles to the movement of the stars and planets. Theory and experiment are vital to developing answers to questions about the universe and the fundamental nature of matter, energy, space and time.
Modules include: Electromagnetic theory; relativistic waves and quantum fields; mathematical methods for theoretical physics; advanced quantum theory; statistical mechanics; advanced quantum field theory; research project; particle physics.
Course Additional Entry
An upper 2nd Class Honours degree in physics or closely related discipline; in exceptional circumstances students may be admitted with a lower 2nd Class Honours degree. English language requirements: 6.5 IELTS score and the equivalent in the relevant TOEFL assessment.
