Course Introduction

Digital media unites digital culture, media and computer technology with networks and creativity, allowing for new ways of expression, production, exchange and leisure to emerge. Over the past two decades, this rapid transformation has led to the appearance of digital media professionals in various industries, ranging from web designers to game developers, from media producers to web content managers, and from film makers to PR managers. Throughout this course you will develop practical, industry'valued skills on professional'standard equipment and learn to use software in digital imaging, 3D graphics and animation, web and game design, digital video and scripting. Joining the aesthetic, political and social debates focusing on digital media, and adding to them in imaginative ways, you will produce a personal portfolio of work.

Course Modules

Year 1 topics include: creative digital imaging; new media technologies and cultures; principles of media design; theory and practice of interaction design. Year 2 topics include: animation (principles and practice); design for internet and mobile; digital video and sound; television studies (theory and practice); digital culture; youth, culture and media; crime and the media; digital practice and research; media audiences. Year 3 topics include: digital management and enterprise; digital play; digital project; world cinema: Hollywood and beyond; digital video postproduction; analysing popular music; digital media work placement; 3 dimensinoal character animation and effects; media power and politics.
