Course Introduction

Learn about British and European Union law, and the methodological and theoretical tools that criminological practitioners use. This is an ideal degree for those looking to work in a range of roles within the Criminal Justice System or in sectors where a broad knowledge of the law is useful.

Course Modules

Year 1 topics include: introduction to criminological theory; introduction to the criminal justice system; legal system; criminal law. Year 2 topics include: public law; European Union law; measuring and interpreting crime; crime in context; perspectives on policing; crime, media and technology; youth, crime and violence; extension of knowledge module. Year 3 topics include: criminology and law project; civil liberties and human rights; crime control and penology; justice, punishment and social control; criminology of pleasure; work placement for professional experience; research project; penal policy; criminological research practice; terrorism and counter'terrorism.
