Taught by former police officers, police staff, and internationally renowned academics, this course will give you a solid grounding in criminology and an understanding of contemporary community policing practice.
Year 1 topics include: introduction to criminological theory; introduction to the criminal justice system; introduction to policing; researching crime and deviance. Year 2 topics include: crime in context; measuring and interpreting crime; perspectives on policing; policing in practice; youth, crime and violence; extension of knowledge module. Year 3 topics include: crime control and penology; criminology and community policing project; justice, punishment and social control; serious and serial offenders; the criminology of pleasure; terrorism and counter'terrorism.
