The course is designed to enable students to develop their understanding of the role of the primary teacher within the broad field of education. There are opportunities to extend their knowledge, develop their classroom practice and examine the underlying principles and values that inform current debates around educational issues. Through evaluation and reflection students are supported in developing a clear understanding of the links between theory and practice.

Course Additional Entry
You must have a relevant UK degree grade 2.2 or above, or an equivalent qualification from overseas. You will also require GCSEs at grade C or above in English language and maths (or equivalent). PGCE primary or early years applicants will also need GCSE science at grade C or above (or equivalent). There is also the requirement before you can be permitted to enrol to take and pass the QTS skills tests as required by the NCTL. This will be a condition of your offer. It would be a good idea to make arrangements to take these tests at the same time as submitting your application. Prior to interview we strongly recommend that you have a minimum of 10 working days recent experience (within the past year) in an appropriate school setting. If you are invited to interview your understanding of current teaching practice and issues in schools will be assessed. In particular as our placements are based in London you should have an awareness of multicultural issues when teaching in urban based schools.
