Course Introduction

In this course, you'll develop an understanding of the role of media, communication and journalism nationally and internationally, and examine how developments in media technology have had a major impact on the modern world. Throughout the programme, you will gain multimedia skills, analyse popular music, and delve into newspaper production and world cinema. Course Modules

Year 1 topics include: media theory; media history; practical journalism; writing skills. Year 2 topics include: cultural industries; media, citizens and communities; newsroom production; media law and ethics: public administration; advanced multimedia skills; data journalism; journalism work placement. Year 3 topics include: broadcast journalism; international communications; journalism project; media, communications and journalism project; science journalism; campaigning journalism; world cinema: Hollywood and beyond; individuals, groups and media narratives; media power and politics; analysing popular music.
