Course Introduction

Communities and charities are at the forefront of current policy and cutting'edge thinking around democratic and social renewal. The sector is also undergoing a transformation through its enhanced role in welfare delivery at a time of austerity and increased demand for its services. Strong communities are therefore crucial, but can only be as effective as those who lead them. Effective community leaders, both paid and unpaid, are key to the work of local partnerships, neighbourhood groups, voluntary and community sector organisations, faith communities, and urban partnerships. If you want to get involved in community activity, or you already work in the sector and want to study for a related award, then this innovative course based at our Stratford campus is ideal. It will enable you to develop transferable employability skills and to better understand issues relating to the community or the voluntary sector.
