Course Introduction

This programme provision intends to extend to doctoral level the richly eclectic musical experience that our students enjoy on undergraduate and Master's programmes, and thereby enhance the LCM's burgeoning postgraduate community; the DMus also aims to maximise our current research strengths in the composition, performance, and music technology subject areas.

Course Additional Entry

A Master's degree in composition, music technology or music production, with merit or distinction; or at least 5 years' professional experience as a composer, and a degree in composition, music technology or music production with 1st Class Honours; applicants must submit a portfolio of existing works demonstrating a high level of expertise; candidates who, at interview, demonstrate an exceptionally high level of expertise and autonomy may be considered for direct entry (in such circumstances, the work will already exhibit impeccable craftsmanship and a thoroughly convincing sense of originality; the application proposal will demonstrate an impressively clear artistic and scholarly purpose); candidates who transfer from another institution with advanced standing may also be considered for direct entry; equivalent overseas qualifications shall be considered; applicants whose 1st language is not English require either IELTS 7.0 or above including a minimum 7.0 for each of the 4 individual components, TOEFL internet'based test 100 or above, Pearson PTE Academic 58 or above, or an equivalent secure English language test.
