Course Introduction

The Department has research interests in subjects across the range of military and naval history, defence policy and international security studies, reflected in the publication of high'quality monographs and articles in peer'reviewed journals. Members of DSD work closely with a range of British and international governmental and academic organisations, providing policy advice and consultancy.

Course Modules

Research areas include: Anglo'American relations and the blockade in the First World War; the British Empire and the Second World War; the psychology of strategy; secret war in Arabia: the war in Dhofar, Oman, 1965'1975.

Course Additional Entry

Master's degree with high Merit (or overseas equivalent), and a good Honours degree (2.1 or above) or overseas equivalent in a related subject; candidates with practical experience in a relevant field (e.g. military, diplomatic, humanitarian or developmental) are welcome.
