Students on this course focus their scholarship, research and enquiry on developing more effective practice. Specialisms on the course include teaching and learning, education leadership and management and developing professional practice; the course can be studied by individuals, or by a group of teachers from a school, local authority or agency. Students registering on the course individually choose modules from a list which corresponds to the pathways previously mentioned. For those registering on the course as part of a group, the course pathway is developed by the University in partnership with schools, local authorities and other agencies, who may offer alternative module delivery at a convenient location. The course is designed so that assignments can be built into working practice, to maximise impact on standards of teaching, leadership and management in schools. All modules are based upon gaining knowledge of best practice through research and literature, implementing this and researching the effect or impact. Students are encouraged to focus assignments on identified institutional and personal needs and to use practitioner action enquiry and reflective practice as a learning model.
Modules include: Developing effective teaching and learning; developing effective leadership and management; developing effective coaching and mentoring in education; developing effective foundation stage teaching and learning; developing professional practice, action enquiry for improvement; dissertation or independent school'based research project.
Course Additional Entry
Applicants should hold a 1st degree and be working in education. All programmes are in English language for instructions and assessment. Applicants must have competence in English language and grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. The most common English language requirements for international students are IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all 4 components) or TOEFL internet based 87 (with at least 21 in listening and writing, 22 in speaking and 23 in reading).
