Course Introduction

Our course has a strong practical element, with an emphasis on developing the skills needed in a laboratory and gaining hands'on experience of diagnostic techniques. You'll learn to use techniques and equipment for cellular and molecular analysis, such as MALDI'TOF mass spectrometers, flow cytometers, DNA sequencing, real'time PCR, electrophoresis and high'performance liquid chromatography, histology and confocal microscopy. We also have fully'equipped proteomics facilities, a histopathology lab and a cell culture facility.

Course Modules

Modules include: Major organ histopathology; cancer; genetics disorder; pathological basis of disease; experimental design and statistic; laboratory leadership and management; biomedical ethics and law; advanced biomedical techniques.

Course Additional Entry

You must have either: An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a related field; or other related professional qualifications and/or substantial work experience in biomedical science. (You will be considered under the Accreditation or Prior Experiential Learning Scheme and you will need to complete a recognition and accreditation of a learning module). You must have competence in English language and we normally require Grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. The most common English Language requirements for international students is IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all four components).
