Course Introduction

This is a vocationally orientated commercial and technical course. Students taking this course will be trained for a technical role of civil or environmental engineer. Civil Engineers are involved in the planning, design and construction of large and small infrastructure and construction projects from roads, rail and bridges to flood defences, dams and buildings. This course is designed to give the student the technical and management skills required to fulfil the role in industry. Students completing the course will be able to seek Incorporated Engineer status. This Foundation Degree course allows the blending of work'based and university'based learning opportunities. Its unique structure enables the completion of the course in two years whilst either in employment in the industry or gaining work experience. Successful completion of this course will allow eligibility for direct entry to the final year of the BEng (Hons) Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Level 4: Mathematics for Civil Engineers; Civil Engineering Practice; Civil Engineering Construction; Health and Safety; Core Studies; Structural Mechanics; Work'based Company Review. Level 5: Fluid Mechanics; Geology and Elements of Soil Mechanics; Work'based Project; Project Planning; Design of Structural Elements; Transport.
