Course Modules

Year 1 core: Introduction to Politics; Europe from 1793 to 1991 Year 1 options: British political history since 1945; French political thought; revolution and reaction in modern France: an introduction to modern French history; milestones of German history; German politics and society; politics and society in Britain 1780'1945; Spain in the twentieth century; critical perspectives on Spanish transitions; any other approved module. Year 2 core: The integration of the European Union; political analysis; research methods in political science. Year 2 options: international political economy; introduction to international relations; British politics; central and east European politics; economic and social change in postwar Europe; territoriality, state and the nation: political geography in the developing world; society, politics and popular culture in Germany after 1870; Germany since 1945: politics, society and economics; Spain in the world; nationalism in Spain; the politics of central and eastern Europe; modern French history; the French civil war 1934'1970; British foreign policy in the age of Palmerston: c.1815'c.1865. Year 3 options: Representative government in modern Europe; public policy in Europe; the EU in the international system; European political economy; European political thought; extended essay; Britain and European integration; contemporary German politics; contemporary French politics; citizenship and exclusion; German foreign policy; politics of everyday life in Germany; contemporary Spanish politics; political economy in Spain; any other approved module.
