Course Introduction

This course is designed to advance analytical skills in the core subject areas of civil engineering including structural analysis and hydraulics; the application of modern information technology techniques to complex problem solving is a theme that runs through the course; additionally the environmental and sustainability agenda is built into the course and exercised primarily through a group sustainability project; the course also covers broader issues of project and process management in civil engineering.

Course Modules

Modules include: advanced structural analysis; hydraulics and environmental protection; seismic design of structures; research methods; dissertation. Optional modules: construction project management; applied geotechnics under dynamic loading.

Course Additional Entry

An Honours degree (at least 2.2) in civil or structural engineering or other engineering qualification at an equivalent level; alternatively, a lower level qualification in a numerate area (e.g. BSc/BEng in engineering) together with appropriate experience will also be considered; applicants with equivalent professional qualifications or a relevant HND and significant, relevant work experience are considered and will be interviewed; applicants whose 1st language is not English require either IELTS 6.5 or above including a minimum 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components, TOEFL internet'based test 90 or above, Pearson PTE Academic 58 or above, or an equivalent secure English language test.
