Course Introduction

This programme is designed specifically for doctors, accounting for the modern'day pressures and situations which they face as leaders in the medical world. Modules are delivered in purpose'built teaching facilities at the Royal College of Physicians in London. The programme is run by Birkbeck and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in association with the Royal College of Physicians. The academic content is put into clinical context through medical case studies; presentations about these case studies are given by expert speakers including postgraduate deans, medical directors and hospital chief executives.

Course Modules

You take the following modules and complete a dissertation. Year 1: Employee relations and motivation; employee relations and motivation (RCP); leading and developing people; leading and developing people (RCP); selection and assessment (RCP); understanding and changing organizations (RCP); understanding organizations and change; year 2: Applying medical leadership in practice (RCP); leadership and performance management (RCP); life career development (RCP); work and well being; work and well being (RCP); year 3: Dissertation MSc medical leadership

Course Additional Entry

The programme is aimed at fully qualified medical doctors practising within any specialty. A minimum of 1'2 years' higher specialist training is essential, for example, StR 3'4 in medical specialties. If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub'tests.
