Course Introduction

This project is part of a joint synthetic/computational study examining the emerging area of (abundant, environmentally benign and non'toxic) group 2 complexes in homogeneous catalysis; theoretical studies are employed to interrogate the factors which drive the reaction chemistry of these complexes; this knowledge is applied to the development of ever more ambitious real catalytic schemes; to this end students challenge one of the most pressing chemical scientific challenges of the early 21st century, the low energy transformation of bulk resources with minimum cost in terms of energy and environmental impact.
