Course Introduction

Study Modern Europe from different disciplinary perspectives in the heart of London with an additional specialisation in the politics, history, language and contemporary culture of Germany. The third year of the BA European Studies degree (German pathway) is taught and examined at the Humboldt University, Berlin.

Course Modules

Year 1 examples: European law; economics A; the causes of war; introduction to politics; one hundred years of German cinema; German politics and society; the German language from past to present; Sprechstunde. Year 2 examples: Public law; introduction to international relations; international political economy; German core language; German language extension II; German for academic purposes. Year 3: Year abroad. Year 4 examples: European political thought; European political economy; democracy and democratisation; German gender politics; extensive writing in German on current affairs; politics and everyday life in the 20th century Germany.
