Course Introduction

This film production course will enable you to explore the medium, developing your own filmmaking practice whilst acquiring the skills and advanced production techniques required to work professionally in the sector. It will help you to engage with ambitious ideas and develop them in to successful films, while exploring and critiquing all aspects of filmmaking production and industry. You will study at Knights Park campus, one of the leading art and design schools for learning, teaching and research in Europe. With an explicit ethos of thinking through making, the programme has access to some of the best workshop and technical facilities in the UK. The programme currently operates several work experience placements in partnership, with award'winning schemes at key external organisations: The British Film Institute (the UK's national film centre), the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Film London, Film and Video Umbrella, Tate Film and Lux. The course is also a partner in the 'Stop Play Record' scheme, commissioning and producing student films for Channel 4 television. Course Modules

Core and optional modules may include: Year 1: fundamentals of design and production; narrative and factual programme making; themes in the history of design for communication and media I; computer studies I: post'production; presentation I: visual research and design elements. Year 2: design and production ii: factual and entertainment; design and production III: factual and entertainment; history of television; contemporary issues in research; careers management; computer studies II: moving image online; presentation II: moving image and design elements. Year 3: design and production IV: the personal project and professional practice; computer studies III: technical resolution; presentation III: the degree show exhibition; major project: research and development; major project: realisation; dissertation.
