Course Introduction

This course aims to equip students with an advanced understanding of management thinking relating to the management of enterprises and projects, particularly with regard to the roles that enterprises play in construction; and to give students a sound appreciation of the way projects should best be defined, developed, and delivered.

Course Modules

Core modules: project management; owner'based management of projects; principles of enterprise management; projects, economics, sectors and behaviour. Options: capturing and delivering value; construction booms and slumps; construction clients and the market for contracts; construction industry development; economics of appraisal of construction projects: leading issues; enterprise management (relationships between firms); environmental sustainability in the construction sector; integrating project information systems with building information modelling; managing change in organisations; managing construction; managing professional practice; managing the enterprise'project relationship; marketing and project business development; organisations and people in projects; social networks in project and enterprise organisations; supply chain management (principles and case studies); technology and design; the construction firm: contractors and sub'contractors; the economics of speculative construction development.

Course Additional Entry

The normal minimum qualifications are a lower 2nd class Honours degree from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard.
