Ukraine is one of Europe's oldest and most complex countries. Its territory and history have constantly been occupied and rewritten. This programme offers the opportunity to gain excellent language skills and a profound knowledge of Ukrainian literature, history and culture that will prepare you for a wide variety of careers.

Course Modules

Year one: compulsory courses: Ukrainian language; Ukrainian culture and text a; Ukrainian culture and text b. Optional courses: cinema in eastern Europe; culture in eastern Europe: anthropological approaches; introduction to east European literatures in translation; language and society; linguistics and verbal art: forms of content; linguistics and verbal art: forms of expression; vampires, society and culture: Transylvania and beyond. Year two: compulsory courses: Ukrainian language 2a ' comprehension; Ukrainian language 2b ' production; the making of modern Ukraine. Optional courses: cinema in eastern Europe; culture in eastern Europe: anthropological approaches; introduction to east European literatures in translation; language and society; linguistics and verbal art: forms of content; linguistics and verbal art: forms of expression; vampires, society and culture: Transylvania and beyond. Year three: year abroad. Final year: compulsory courses: Ukrainian language 3a ' comprehension; Ukrainian language 3b ' production; free'standing dissertation on a Ukrainian topic. Optional courses: cinema in eastern Europe; culture in eastern Europe: anthropological approaches; introduction to east European literatures in translation; language and society; linguistics and verbal art: forms of content; linguistics and verbal art: forms of expression; vampires, society and culture: Transylvania and beyond.
