Course Introduction

The main areas of research are discrete mathematics: combinatorial theory; coding, designs, finite geometry; information technology: cryptography; development of protocols, number theory and analysis: analytic number theory; sieve methods; group theory; operational research: research on operational research methodology, decision'making, behavioural and system studies, resource allocation, traffic studies; quantum information; quantum theory; statistics and probability: time'series and forecasting, design of experiments, stochastic processes, applied probability, geometric probability; theoretical atomic and molecular physics: electron atom/ion and electron molecule scattering, single and multiple photo'absorption by atoms and molecules; electron impact ionisation; atoms in strong electro'magnetic fields, multi'excited atomic states; classical chaotic systems.

Course Additional Entry

UK Second Class Honours degree in an appropriate subject; or equivalent. A Master's level qualification will also be expected.
