Course Introduction

The programme meets the needs of engineers engaged in the planning, design and construction of a variety of civil engineering works; this programme is designed to give students the opportunity to: gain a depth of knowledge and understanding of the most up to date practices and theories in civil engineering, develop techniques for analysing and solving problems, and understand the role of the engineer as an important professional in society and the built environment.

Course Modules

Modules include: Options: hydraulic structures, coastal and river engineering; water supply, treatment and waste water engineering; engineering management and project organisation; soil structure engineering; design in steel and concrete; advanced design of structures; highway and transportation engineering; computer applications; site investigations and ground exploration; structural dynamics and earthquake engineering; research dissertation.

Course Additional Entry

Applicant entry to MSc: BEng (Hons) 2.2 or BSc (Hons) 2.1 in civil engineering, and appropriate professional qualifications such as MICE or MIStructE. For the PgDip: BEng (Hons) 3rd or BSc (Hons) 2.2 in civil engineering; applicants with other qualifications considered individually. IELTs 6.0 overall with 6.0 writing and speaking 5.5 reading and listening.
