St Mary's University, Twickenham

Course Introduction

St Mary's has a long tradition of excellence in sport'related degrees and the Sport Science programme is endorsed by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Scientists (BASES). The degree also enjoys strong links with the English Institute of Sport (EIS) and UK Athletics, both with a presence on campus. Many elite sports performers choose to study Sport Science at St Mary's and we seek to support them in combining their sport with higher education, in fact we pride ourselves on excellent relations between staff and students. We also enjoy excellent laboratories and sports facilities.

Course Modules

Level 1: 6 core modules provide grounding in all concepts of sport science, as well as the contexts in which these may be applied. Level 2: Students are required to probe more deeply into relevant theory and practice to understand the context of sport science and to develop skills of investigating and reporting. Level 3: Students take greater responsibility for constructing their programme according to their interests; theoretical work focuses on advanced issues and research within a variety of modules; practical work probes the nature, implementation and evaluation of training programmes in a chosen sport or activity.
