Mathematics is an active and dynamic research department here at Brunel. Our academics' work is frequently supported by external grants and contracts with leading industry and government establishments. As a result, lecturers are often working at the frontiers of their subject and as their work feeds directly into their teaching, you can rest assured your degree course is truly up to date. All our mathematics courses incorporate projects which you are free to approach in the way that best suits your particular strengths and interests. For example, it's often possible to emphasise either concrete applications or abstract theory, and you can elect to use theoretical or computational tools only, or a mixture of both. We offer UK students up to 10 scholarships of up to '1000 for each year of study on any of our BSc or MMath programmes. Check here for more details. www.brunel.ac.uk/maths'mmath Each of our BSc programmes will meet the educational requirements of the Chartered Mathematician designation awarded by the Institute of Mathematics and its applications provided it is followed by training and employment experience so you acquire equivalent competences to those specified by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for taught Master's degrees. Our MMath degree programmes for Mathematics and Financial Mathematics both meet the educational requirements for the Chartered Mathematician (CMath) Designation. In addition to our BSc Mathematics we also offer specialist pathways/Joint Honours in the following areas giving you the chance to tailor your studies: ' Financial Mathematics BSc (Hons)/MMath ' Mathematics with Computer Science BSc (Hons) ' Mathematics and Statistics with Management BSc (Hons).
Level 1: Linear algebra; calculus and numerical methods; discrete mathematics, probability and statistics; financial markets; introduction to financial accounting. Level 2: Linear and numerical methods; communication skills and operational research; statistics; algebra and discrete mathematics; analysis; corporate finance; corporate investment. Level 3: Optional Work placement.. (for thick'sandwich mode of study). level 4 major project: Stochastic medols and mathematical finance; risk and optimisation in finance; numerical methods for partial differential equations; financial engineering statistics; differential and integral equations; numerical methods of PDEs. Level 5: Advanced projects; risk, simulation and decision analysis; variational methods for partial differential equations; advanced mathematical finance; stochastic PDEs and It's calculus; risk management and regulation.
