Course Introduction

The programme lays the foundations of advanced mathematics necessary for applications of, and research in, a rapidly growing subject. It is designed for students aiming at careers in which mathematics is used technically, including industrial and academic research and finance. It covers more ground than the BSc programme, and includes a substantial project to be completed in the fourth year

Course Modules

Year 1 examples: Calculus I; calculus II; geometry I; introduction to dynamical systems; linear methods. Year 2 examples: Analysis I; geometry of surfaces; groups and symmetries; intermediate dynamics; linear algebra. Year 3 examples: Special relativity and electromagnetism; complex analysis; introductory quantum theory; topics in mathematics; numerical methods; Galois theory. Year 4 examples: MSci project; manifolds; applied probability and stochastic; Fourier analysis.
