Course Introduction

The course enables students to receive an intense education and learn to innovate and create designs in multiple ways, from experimental exploration to market'focused product propositions, through to projects driven by new business models and commercial planning. The course is managed jointly by the School of Design for Production at the Royal College of Art and the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial. Successful completion of the course leads to the award of the MA (Royal College of Art), MSc (Imperial College London) and the Diploma of the Imperial College (DIC).

Course Additional Entry

The minimum academic requirement is a 2.1 Honours degree or higher in any subject, however applicants must also show aptitude or great potential in design or technology'led innovation. In exceptional circumstances applicants without this degree qualification will be considered (for example, excellent professional experience or outstanding creative or technical abilities). Some applicants with business or other commercial backgrounds are also considered. Mature candidates with industrial experience are particularly welcome. All applicants whose 1st language is not English require: GCSE, IGCSE, GCE O'level or equivalent at grade C; or Cambridge certificate of proficiency in English (CPE) at grade C; or IELTS score of 7.0 with a score of 6.5 or better in the written and speaking section; or TOEFL paper minimum score of 610 (test of written English (TWE) of 4.5 or more); or TOEFL computer minimum score of 250 (TWE of 4.5 or more); or TOEFL internet minimum score of 100 overall, including a minimum of 24 in the written section and a minimum of 22 in the speaking section.
