Course Introduction

This course focuses on acting in film, television and other screen'related media. Students will explore the expressive potential of performance and enhance their understanding of the relationship between performers and the camera. This course is primarily for those who have had some previous training or professional experience. Students will build on their existing skills and focus on specific needs. Drawing on the expertise of Central's staff and professionals from the industry, this course aims to develop highly'skilled actors with the ability to work across all performance mediums, specialising in screen.

Course Modules

Modules include: breathing; vocal delivery; movement; presence; focus; actions; interactions, and character development; key acting techniques in film, and television; the registers of performance by making a video diary; a contemporary silent film project; a drama documentary project; a multimedia project for live performance, and one or more short film/video (narrative drama) projects; working on location; working in the studio; working in different recording formats, and with different directors, crews, and production personnel; pre', and post'production protocols; historical, ideological, and critical contexts within which traditions of screen performance have evolved.

Course Additional Entry

Applicants should normally have a 1st degree in the broad field of performance and drama studies, although applications from students of other disciplines may be considered if they have sufficient experience of performance. The application may also be considered if applicants have appropriate professional experience, or can otherwise demonstrate your potential to undertake this form of postgraduate study successfully. An offer will normally only be made after audition and interview.
