Course Introduction

This course is designed to meet increasing demand by combining solid training in economic theory with practical exposure to the field of finance through a variety of specialised options. The Financial Economics course is especially distinctive in the three'way link it establishes between economic theory, quantitative finance and financial regulation.

Course Modules

Modules include: economics of financial markets; financial microeconomics; macroeconomics; financial econometrics; financial derivatives; financial economics project (dissertation); electives: international money and finance; topics in corporate finance; numerical methods for financial economic analysis; financial regulation and forensic econometrics.

Course Additional Entry

An Upper 2nd Class Honours degree in economics with econometrics at least at the advanced undergraduate level; or upper 2nd Class degree in mathematical subject with economics to at least a 1st'year undergraduate level; or relevant professional experience in an economic policy or financial sector related job; A'level mathematics or equivalent required; if English is not a 1st language applicants will require 1 of the following: a 1st degree from an overseas institution recognised by the university as providing adequate evidence of proficiency in the English language; GCE O'level/GCSE English language or English literature, grade C minimum; Cambridge ESOL CPE at grade C or above; an overall score of 6.5 in the IELTS with a minimum of 6.0 for each subtest; a score of 600 minimum (computer score 250) in the TOEFL; satisfactory standard in the verbal section of the Princeton Test (GMAT); US SAT with 500 in verbal performance; WELT with pass grades of BBC minimum; other evidence of proficiency in the English language which satisfies the board of studies concerned.
