Course Introduction

Vehicle Design welcomes research applicants. We offer MPhil and PhD by project and thesis. The aim of the programme is to educate future generations of vehicle designers and make them aware of the changing social, cultural, commercial and technical context of mobility.

Course Modules

Current or recent areas of research include: The transportation of people on irregular ground: analysis and proposal solutions; an analysis of the gap between branding and style marketing and design in the automotives industry; the problem of the vehicle in the city (what is the future of vehicular mobilisation in the 21st century?); functional and aesthetic interface of public road transport; a new people's car (changing the bias of vehicle control layouts from vehicle'centred to user'centred).

Course Additional Entry

For MPhil: normally a good relevant undergraduate degree, or equivalent qualification. For PhD: Master's degree or equivalent qualification; initial registration is usually for MPhil. Exceptionally, other qualifications may be approved, providing that the Academic Board for Concessions and Discipline (ABCD) is satisfied that the applicant has the ability to pursue the programme of research successfully. Candidates who do not speak English as their 1st language will be required to provide evidence that they have achieved at least 93 in the TOEFL internet based test with an additional writing test score of TWE 24 or an IELTS exam score of 6.5 with 6.5 in writing.
