This LCF course is high profile in a high profile area of the fashion industry, where students succeed in international competitions, our graduates get great jobs within the industry, and recent alumni have successfully set up in business under their own labels. You will learn creative approaches to the design and realisation of contemporary fashion menswear, and acquire the skills of innovative cutting, fabric sourcing and construction in both structured and unstructured clothing across a range of market levels. You will develop the core skills of research, design, development, realisation, communication and presentation, together with key business and marketing skills. There is a short work placement, giving you valuable experience and contacts, and by the end of the course you will able to succeed as a creative designer in the challenging international field of menswear. You will be based at Curtain Road in Shoreditch, on the edge of the City of London and very near to Hoxton.
Year 1: Introduction to study in higher education; introduction to design and realisation; introduction to cultural and historical studies; stretch and drape; shape and structure. Year 2: Cultural and historical studies; range development; research methods; professional brief (collaborative); work experience and professional studies. Year 3: Design synthesis; contextualising your practice; final major project.
