Course Introduction

Attain a high level of proficiency in the German language, and develop your knowledge and critical understanding of German culture and society through an exceptionally wide choice of modules: covering literature, film, history, philosophy, and German political and social theory. The programme is based in London and includes a year in a German'speaking country. We offer different pathways for experienced students of German language, as well as complete beginners.

Course Modules

Year 1 examples: Medieval Germany (language, literature and society); milestones of German history; one hundred years of German cinema; the German language from past to present; German politics and society. Year 2 examples: German language extension course II; translation from and into German II; German for academic purposes; language and mind; the German language since 1900. Year 3 examples: Year abroad. Year 4 examples: Translation from and into German III; extensive writing in German on current affairs; language and mind; the German language since 1900.
