Course Introduction

The programme can be undertaken by composers and by performers wishing to integrate musicological, sociological, psychological or philosophical perspectives into their work, and by those wishing to research aspects of music pedagogy and musical institutions.

Course Additional Entry

Applicants will hold a music Master's degree, along with an upper 2nd class Honours degree in music. A portfolio of 3 compositions of varying size and duration, each accompanied by a CD recording (live sounds and not MIDI) in addition to a 1000'word draft research proposal is required for composers; performers submit a CD recording for their playing and a proposal outlining their research questions and methodologies. Students whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 7.0 (with a minimum of 6.0 in each component).
