Course Introduction

This programme provides a basic training in psychotherapy and counselling theory and skills; it combines academic, practical and experiential components within a supportive and challenging environment; as well as exploring the main therapeutic theories, students examine philosophical and spiritual perspectives and cross'cultural approaches; students learn about the practical and ethical issues of working with clients in a variety of situations.

Course Modules

Modules include: a way of working (overview of humanistic therapy); introduction to gestalt therapy; describing ourselves (the fundamentals of phenomenology); society, biology and reality; facing the unknown (consciousness and unconsciousness); putting theory into practice; working with loss and bereavement.

Course Additional Entry

Previous counselling training or experience is not required, nor is a 1st degree or its equivalent; life experience, a mature attitude and a capacity for self'reflection are necessary qualities; students with varied background and experience are welcome; admission to the programme is based partly on the supporting documents sent in alongside the application, and partly on an interview with the course leader.
