Course Introduction

Located in one of the world's main financial and business centres, Westminster Business School is an internationally facing, professional and research'engaged business school. Our Accounting and Finance courses provide a detailed knowledge of the conceptual and applied aspects of accounting, an analysis of management processes, and a focus on the development of professional skills to prepare you for the business workplace. Our purpose'built Financial Markets Suite utilises the Bloomberg platform to provide a state'of'the'art teaching resource, giving you exposure to technology widely adopted in leading global financial institutions. We have been selected as a Centre of Excellence in financial markets by the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) ' one of only 12 centres worldwide ' and we are an ACCA Gold Approved Learning Partner. The course also offers you the opportunity for a year'long work placement, or to study overseas for a year at one of our partner universities. This specialist course has been designed to give you the knowledge and skills in current accounting practice, and contemporary and emerging applications, to be able to respond proactively to developments and the challenge of change in the working environment. It will provide you with the basis on which to build a career in accounting, or the management of accounting functions, in a wide range of organisations, as well as the theoretical and conceptual platform to progress into specialist postgraduate study. You will also gain an understanding of global diversity in accounting practice, culture and ethical regulatory environment. Learning takes place through a range of activities including lectures, seminars, workshops, problem solving, and exercises applying accounting techniques. Assessment methods include closed'book exams, in'class tests, and coursework in the form of essays, reports and case studies.
