Course Introduction

Westminster is famous for producing highly creative fashion professionals, and our alumni include Christopher Bailey, Chief Creative Officer of Burberry; Stuart Vevers, Creative Director of Loewe; and Claire Barrow and Ashley Williams. Our courses have incredibly strong links and support from the fashion industry, providing guest lectures, live retail projects and student placements and internships. We foster new thinking, new ideas and new possibilities. Taught by active practitioners in a research'intensive environment, you will work alongside students from film, photography, music, art and design, and journalism ' a unique hothouse of creative opportunity. During London Fashion Week our students work with designers which have included Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Celine, Christopher Kane, Mulberry, and Stella McCartney; others undertake internships internationally with companies such as Balenciaga, Givenchy, Lanvin and Dior in Paris, and Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang and Thom Browne in New York.

Course Modules

Level 4: The modules provide an overview of the retail industry whilst exploring in more depth trend forecasting, product development, fashion marketing and key elements of business finance; an introduction is given to the techniques and methods of 2 and 3'dimensional design practice; career planning provides the tools to attain the required business placement in the sandwich year. Level 5: Consumer and contract law; textiles and manufacturing knowledge; range planning; and visual merchandising; techniques and tools for maximising business profit are examined and practised whilst design capabilities are further developed through toiling and sample making. Sandwich year: A year out in business experiencing the dynamic and fast paced nature of product buying management. Level 6: The final year develops and synthesises the cumulative academic and practical learning achieved; the emphasis is on strategic thinking, commercial creative flair and business acumen.
