Course Introduction

This course enables students to analyse standard and innovative structures and gain the necessary knowledge to advise on the type of structure and materials used in construction. Students study the financial, legal and contractual problems associated with the construction process, and learn how to apply a knowledge of management techniques and contract administration in the supervision of construction projects. The optional European module exposes candidates to working in a multinational team and allows them to gain experience of analysing how different European countries approach construction.

Course Modules

Modules include: Reinforced and pre'stressed concrete design; design of concrete structures subjected to seismic actions; substructure design in reinforced concrete; design of steel structures; conditions of contract; estimating, purchasing and cost control; project and risk management; legal obligations; individual research dissertation.

Course Additional Entry

An Honours degree or equivalent in related discipline, and/or suitable industrial experience; applicants whose 1st language is not English must have an IELTS score of 6.5 overall with 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in reading, listening and speaking.
