Course Introduction

This programme will help students gain a fascinating insight into the work of the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA, formerly AHVLA). Areas of study will combine LSHTM's strengths in epidemiological principles and communicable disease epidemiology, with the RVC's expertise in veterinary epidemiology, animal health and production.

Course Modules

Modules include: Extended epidemiology; statistics with computing; epidemiological aspects of laboratory investigation of animal disease; surveillance of animal health and production; data management for epidemiological studies; animal health and economics; options: basic demographic methods; clinical trials; introduction to health economics; study design: statistical methods in epidemiology; investigation of animal disease patterns in time and space; applied veterinary epidemiology; epidemiology and control of communicable diseases; modelling and the dynamics of infectious diseases; methods of vector control; advanced diagnostic parasitology; population dynamics and projections; analysis of heirarchical and other dependent data; organisational management; reviewing the literature; genetic epidemiology; Beyesian statistics and computationally intensive methods; epidemiology and non'communicable diseases.

Course Additional Entry

A 1st or 2nd Class Honours degree in veterinary science, biological science, medicine, mathematics or statistics and relevant experience. Students whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 7.0 or equivalent (with a minimum 6.5 in each component).
