Course Introduction

This programme provides students with the background knowledge of fiance. Areas of study include: corporate finance; mathematical techniques in finance; statistics and financial econometrics.

Course Modules

Pre'study online modules: accounting primer; career and professional development; introduction to finance; introduction to maths; plagiarism awareness; study skills. Foundation modules: application of MATLAB to finance; business valuation; financial modelling; markets and securities; the finance industry. Core modules: corporate finance; derivatives; empirical finance (methods and applications); financial econometrics; investment and portfolio management; mathematics for finance; ethics and professional standards in finance (online module). Elective modules: advanced corporate finance; advanced investments; advanced options theory; behavioural investment management; corporate strategy and dynamic competition; credit risk; financial crises (regulation and ethics); fixed income securities; international elective (macro and finance for practitioners); international finance; mergers and acquisitions; private equity and entrepreneurial finance; quantitative trading strategies; real estate investment; structures credit and equity products; wealth management and alternative investment.

Course Additional Entry

A 1st Class Honours degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g. mathematics, statistics, econometrics, engineering) is essential; all applicants whose 1st language is not English require: GCSE, IGCSE, GCE O'level or equivalent at grade B; or Cambridge certificate of proficiency in English (CPE) at grade B; or IELTS score of 7.0 with a score of 6.5 or better in the written and speaking section; or TOEFL paper minimum score of 610 (test of written English (TWE) of 4.5 or more); or TOEFL computer minimum score of 250 (TWE of 4.5 or more); or TOEFL internet minimum score of 100 overall, including a minimum of 24 in the written section and a minimum of 24 in the speaking section.
