Course Introduction

This programme covers advanced study of modern structural engineering subjects, providing a blend of design and analytical topics, and of theory and professional practice; all students take a course on the use of information technology in structural engineering; people working in the civil engineering industry may attend individual modules as short courses on a day'release basis.

Course Modules

Core modules: advanced analysis and analysis of structures; structural dynamics; finite element methods; structural reliability and risk; design of concrete structures; design of steel and composite structure. In addition, two elective modules are selected from: analysis of steel and concrete structures for blast and fire exposure; bridge engineering; earthquake analysis of structures.

Course Additional Entry

An Honours degree (2.2 minimum) in civil engineering or another appropriate subject; applicants with a Diploma of Technology in an appropriate subject and Chartered Engineer status are also accepted.
