Course Introduction

This four year MSci programme allows you to study varied aspects of mathematics to an advanced level, with core courses in algebra, analysis, applied mathematics and mathematical methods. It offers an additional year on top of the Mathematics BSc, allowing students to specialise further by taking more advanced courses, and undertaking a major final'year project.

Course Modules

In the 1st 1 1/2 years, students study 4 core subjects: algebra; analysis; mathematical methods; applied mathematics; from then onwards, students may specialise (or not) in applied mathematics or pure mathematics; the study of core courses is the prerequisite for the choice of options in the 2nd 1/2 of the 2nd year and the 30 or so options in the 3rd and 4th years; these options reflect the wide research interests of the staff and the large variety of interesting subjects which can be studied in mathematics.
