This course equips students with the skills, knowledge and experience necessary for successful entry into the industry; it is practical and, where possible, tailored to meet individual students' needs; it also develops transferable skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication and time management.
In the 1st year, students develop a thorough understanding of 4 core disciplines: Stage management; set construction; lighting; sound. They take classes in: Stage management; production management; staging; prop making; lighting (including design); rigging; sound; set design; scenic construction; health and safety; first aid; fire safety and drafting ' manual and computer aided design (CAD ' WYSIWYG and AutoCAD). They are also introduced to related areas in television and radio, including the roles of the First Assistant, Director of Photography and Location Manager, and gain an insight into sound recording both on location and post'production.
