Course Introduction

Students study contemporary issues, ethical and legal frameworks, frameworks for assessment and intervention with children and their families and with vulnerable adults, and human growth and development. Students have the opportunity to undertake practice placements over the course of the programme. Students also selects a special interest module in an area of practice of their choice. This can include the option of undertaking a comparative study by undertaking a short international practice learning experience.

Course Modules

Modules may include: core skills for assessment and intervention; human development and the social environment; applied social work practice; law, policy and ethics; special interests (includes an option for international placement); readiness for direct practice (skills development); 1st practice placement 1 (70 days); final practice placement 2 (100 days); independent study (capstone project).

Course Additional Entry

Honours degree in a social science subject (2.1 or better) and at least 6 months' experience in social work or a related agency; GCSE grade A'C in English and mathematics; interview; applicants whose 1st language is not English require 7.0 overall.
