Course Introduction

BA (Hons) Politics is taught by a team of expert lecturers who deliver a range of intellectually stimulating modules. The degree combines political theory, political science, political economy, area studies and international relations to provide an in'depth study of contemporary politics and its key dynamics and structures. You'll be taught by research active academics whose work is nationally and internationally recognised and informs the course curriculum. You'll also have the opportunity to take advantage of our strong voluntary work placement scheme.

Course Modules

Year 1: introduction to political theory; social and political problems; revolutions, wars and social change 1; crime, justice, politics and social policy; politics, decision making and democracy; revolutions, wars and social change 2. Year 2: European politics in transition: continuity and change; social research skills 1; gender difference and equality; social theory and modernity; the environment, sustainability and politics; globalisation and development: Africa and the BRIC economies; introduction to the workplace; making identities: citizenship, race and nation. Year 3: contemporary international politics; dissertation; work placement dissertation; America politics; ideology, culture and power; genocide in the twentieth century; women, power and politics; politics and protest; work placement.
