Course Introduction

This course brings together an historical and contemporary examination of the theological ideas which have shaped Christian faith and identity; it provides an intellectual foundation in the central teachings at the heart of Christianity; it provides the conceptual tools necessary to understand Christian teachings about God, Jesus Christ, salvation, grace, the Bible and Church and relations with other faith traditions; it teaches biblical and doctrinal traditions and their modern interpretations; it looks in detail at issues particularly relevant in the contemporary Christian context, such as the significance of Jesus Christ for human life and destiny and the Augustinian tradition in western Christianity; it spans systematic theology, church history, biblical study, pastoral theology and inter'religious relations.

Course Modules

Modules include: Augustine and the Christian tradition; central themes in modern Christian theology; religion (context and crisis); Jewish'Christian relations; and 1 of the following: the bible in the life of the church; Christianity in dialogue; dissertation.

Course Additional Entry

Applicants must hold a 1st or 2nd class Honours degree (or equivalent), either in theology or in another appropriate subject; for mature students, ability to undertake the programme may be considered on the basis of other relevant evidence; for applicants whose 1st language is not English, the College requires: IELTS score of at least 6.5, with no less than 6.5 in each of listening, speaking, reading and writing; TOEFL internet based test score of 92 with no less than 23 in each of listening, speaking, reading and writing; Pearson Test of English Academic score of 60 overall with no less than 55 in any component.
