Course Introduction

Law informs every aspect of modern society. It underpins the rights and responsibilities of many public and private interactions, from commerce to family matters. You'll investigate the social, economic, political and moral factors that shape legal development and application. Your studies will include advocacy, negotiation, mooting, participation in a simulated personal injury case and opportunities for legal work placements.

Course Modules

Year 1: legal skills, legal study, legal system (including level 1 induction); introduction to contract and tort; introduction to public and EU; law of contract; law of torts; public law. Year 2: working in the law (including level 2 induction); criminal law 1; EU law; criminal law 2; property, equity and trusts 1. Plus one option from: alternative dispute resolution: theory and practice; gender, justice and the law; jurisprudence; law and politics; medical law and ethics. Year 3: project (including level 3 induction); property, equity and trusts 2; land law. Plus three options from: analysis of evidence and proof; criminal litigation in context (CILEX); company law; civil rights and the individual; relationships and their financial consequences; mediation and negotiation skills; substantive law of the EU; sports law; consumer protection and the law; civil litigation (CILEX); civil rights and the state; EU criminal and migration law; European human rights; employment law; law in relation to children; international protection of human right. PT = four modules a year for four years, and two modules in Year 5.
