Course Introduction

There is a growth in the number of entrepreneurs starting businesses with social and environmental purposes at their heart; this exciting course will enable students to develop a critical understanding of and practical insights into modes of social enterprise; the programme introduces students to key concepts in the historical development of social enterprise and innovation and to its changing role in society and the economy; seminars and talks are given by social entrepreneurs, as well as leading professionals; they learn innovative approaches to developing an enterprise, and gain confidence in revenue generation and financial modelling; a significant amount of the learning is delivered through group projects and activities; this is designed to develop students' individual communication skills and teamwork; the master's programme contains 4 taught courses and a further dissertation/portfolio component; theories of creative and social enterprise: work, problem'solving and precariousness; social enterprise: policy and frameworks; entrepreneurial modelling; choice of social return on investment: principles and practice or branding II; dissertation or project/portfolio plus reflective analysis.

Course Additional Entry

An undergraduate degree of at least upper 2nd Class standard in a relevant subject, or relevant industry experience; if students native language is not English they need a minimum score of 7.0 in IELTS (including 7.0 in the written element).
