Course Introduction

This flexible programme allows you to select from the range of options offered across environmental geoscience, geology and geophysics. You may also graduate with a degree in Earth Sciences (Palaeobiology), or in Earth Sciences (Planetary Science), dependent on your chosen courses. This four year MSc provides an additional year on top of the Earth Sciences BSc, in which you undertake an independent research project, extend your knowledge with advanced courses related to your specialist pathway, and join in a wide'ranging seminar series on Earth and Planetary System Science.

Course Modules

Year 1 examples: Surface processes; the earth. Year 2 examples: Geology of planetary bodies; from petrology to petrogenesis; history of life; dynamic earth. Year 3 examples: Experimental methods in water'rock interaction; physics of oceans, ice sheets and climate; basin evolution, stratigraphy, and economic aspects. Year 4 examples: Independent MSci project; earth and planetary system science.
