Course Introduction

This degree programme gives you a solid grounding in computer science with a specialised focus on multimedia. Multimedia, the use of graphics, animations, video and audio in a computer environment, is an expanding area in industry. The final year covers technical areas such as the delivery of multimedia content over the internet, and compression techniques, such as MP3 and 3D computer graphics. The programme also involves studying human factors in multimedia, including the principles for designing graphical user interfaces and the study of interactive systems.

Course Modules

Year 1: Procedural programming; logic and proof; object oriented programming; discrete structures; algorithms and data structures; language and communication; computer architecture; computers and society. Year 2: Software engineering; systems analysis; database systems; operating systems; graphical user interfaces; network systems architecture; specification and reasoning. Year 3: Multimedia computer science project; distributed systems and security; interaction design; computer graphics; multimedia; plus 2 from: software risk assessment; computability; algorithms and complexity; high performance computing; computational genomics; advanced database systems and technology.
