Course Introduction

This course primarily focuses on the physiological and biomechanical elements of the human performer, while also providing you with grounding in the lab techniques used by physiologists and biomechanists. The course serves as ideal preparation for those wishing to pursue accreditation as a sport scientist through the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES).

Course Modules

Core modules include: physical activity and health; applied sports physiology; biomechanics of sport and exercise; research methods and data analysis; dissertation. Optional modules include: laboratory techniques in physiology and biomechanics; performance lifestyle.

Course Additional Entry

A UK upper 2nd Class (2.1) Honours degree or equivalent internationally recognised qualification in sports sciences or graduates who have completed a joint course with sport sciences or sports studies as 1 of their subjects. Other disciplines including medicine, medical science, veterinary medicine, veterinary science, physiotherapy or any biological science will also be considered providing they can show evidence of at least 1 year's experience of working in science or an area allied to medicine and or sport and will be considered on an individual basis. Applicants with a lower 2nd Class degree (2.2) in sports sciences or graduates who have completed a joint course with sport sciences or sports studies as 1 of their subjects providing they can show evidence of at least 1 year's experience of working in science or an area allied to medicine and or sport and will be considered on an individual basis. Applicants will be required to have an interview. NB: Hepatitis B immunisation will be required as students on this pathway will be involved in taking capillary blood samples.
